(3) If Song Lyrics Were Read As Prose

Last week Joss suggested that I take the red pen to Kick In The Door by The Notorious B.I.G. After diligently adding it to my list of songs to grade I set about searching for the lyrics. I must confess I rarely listen to rap music and although the tune sounded familiar that may well have been because it’s also the instrumental for ‘I Put A Spell On You’ as performed by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins… So I can’t confidently say that I’ve even heard the song before.

I sat down to read through the lyrics and… well, let’s just say I was speechless. I didn’t really know what to do with those lyrics. So I just took it line by line and hope that I haven’t missed some profound meaning.

Kick in the door lyrics

I’m happy for anyone to explain this song to me and prove me wrong, but I certainly couldn’t find much value in the selected lyrics. I hope that’s not disappointing Joss.

I’ll also gladly take any suggestions for next weeks red pen treatment. It can be a song you hate or a song you love. If the lyrics check out they’ll get a good grade. I’m not here just to lyric bash, though it is much more fun scribbling all over it.

  1. This is beautiful! “I’m pretty conscious of your nonsense at this point.”
You fulfilled my dream of seeing something close to the end result of a high school english teacher trying to help out this song.
ps: The “wet” that’s being sparked is marijuana laced with pcp. The more you know.
